PERIODIZATION IS THE CONCEPT OF LAYING OUT A TRAINING SEASON INTO DIFFERENT TRAINING PURPOSES TO TAKE YOU FROM PRE-SEASON TO YOUR PINNACLE RACE!

  • PRE-SEASON: YOU ARE RUNNING TO GET BACK IN SHAPE.  LITTLE SPEED, LIGHT TEMPO, BUILDING MILEAGE.
  • SEASON START: TRANSITION TO FASTER PACED WORKOUTS.  STILL BUILDING MILEAGE, FASTER TEMPO RUNS, STRIDES, TOWARDS THE END OF THIS PHASE INTRODUCING SPEED WORK
  • RACING SEASON: TRANSITION TO SHORTER, FASTER EFFORTS.  MAINTAIN MILEAGE BUT VARYING, INCREASE FASTER TEMPO RUNS AND INTERVALS, RUNNING SPEED IN 3 WORKOUTS A WEEK, FAST STRIDES.
  • TAPER: REDUCE MILEAGE TO PREPARE TO RACE YOUR BEST.  REDUCE MILEAGE, RUN SHORTER SPEED WITH MORE RECOVERY, INCLUDE MORE RECOVERY DAYS.
